Our Story
Founded on a frustration.
Stonehaven was founded in 2011after years of watching beautiful landscape designs get compromised in the space between the plan and the build — contractors who hadn't read the design intent, plant substitutions made without consultation, stone work that looked fine until the first winter.
Our founders came from architectural practice and residential construction. They built Stonehaven around a single conviction: that design and build should function as a single discipline, with a single team accountable to the whole.
We work on a small number of projects at a time. Principals are on-site for key installations. We take on work we can execute at the standard we'd want for our own properties.

Design and build as one
Every project is designed and built by the same team. No handoffs, no value-engineering after the proposal, no sub-contractors handling the work that matters most.
Material honesty
We specify natural stone, hardwood, and plant material chosen for how they age, not how they photograph on day one. Our work should look better at year five than it did at installation.
Ecological intelligence
We design landscapes that work with your site's ecology — drainage, soil type, sun, native plant communities — not against it. Lower maintenance, higher resilience.
Transparent process
Written scopes, fixed milestones, real line-item estimates before any contract is signed. No surprises, no change orders invented after the fact.
